I have the honour to apply for permission to go to Mesopotamia to run light draught steamers on the river there. I have had good river experience on the Irrawaddy river with practically the same kind of work.

I was eight years there, five of which was in command which my papers will show, and as it is really the kind of work which I have specialised in, I feel it my duty to try and get there to do something for my country.

I therefore beg to tender my resignation from the Government service pending my getting a Commission in Kesopotamia.

I trust that my petition may meet with your approval and that you will forward same to His Excellency the Officer Administering the Goverment with a recommendation.
